Description

Is this you?

  • Experience with healthcare messaging and integration
  • Detailed working knowledge of HL7 v2.x, HL7 FHIR and other recognised healthcare messaging standards
  • Familiarity with NHS-standard integration engines such as InterSystems
  • Want the advantages of homeworking, flexible working hours and location. (Must be UK-based)

We are proud to be exclusively representing a leading healthcare technology company in their search for an experienced Integration Developer to join their growing development team. Our client provides a cloud-hosted endoscopy management system (EMS) used across the NHS and private healthcare sector, and this is a fantastic opportunity to work on mission-critical clinical integrations from the comfort of your own home.

This is a remote, permanent role offering £50 - 60,000, working within a small, close-knit technical team where you'll have real influence over the products and processes you help build.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a developer (5+ years' experience) to take ownership of the development, support and maintenance of messaging interfaces between customers' clinical systems and their cloud-hosted EMS platform. While healthcare messaging and integration experience is a real advantage, this is fundamentally a strong back-end developer role – if you have the technical skills below, you'll quickly pick up the healthcare domain knowledge.

Reporting to the Head of Development, you'll be involved in the full lifecycle of feature design and delivery, from requirements gathering through to implementation, testing and production support. You'll also play a key role in driving good engineering practice across the team – championing design patterns, secure coding, and thorough testing – and will mentor colleagues through code reviews and pair programming. As part of a small company, there's plenty of scope to get involved beyond your core remit if that's something you enjoy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the current custom interface, built on Java, Apache Camel & Spring Boot, running in a Docker environment
  • Manage and deliver ad-hoc integration projects, liaising directly with customer and third-party integration specialists
  • Develop new interfaces to support messaging and integration with third parties
  • Develop, enhance, support and maintain existing in-house interfaces
  • Feed into technical strategy, offering opinion on integration, messaging and wider healthcare messaging best practice
  • Produce clean, efficient code to industry standards and best practices
  • Review, troubleshoot, debug and resolve issues in the production environment
  • Deploy code to live environments through a structured change control process
  • Research, recommend and implement ongoing improvements
  • Provide technical assistance to customers integrating with the EMS platform
  • Monitor day-to-day interface operation and respond to alerts
  • Support the service desk by resolving customer support tickets
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Work to internal and customer deadlines within an agile project team
  • Mentor team members through code review, pair programming and knowledge sharing
  • Keep up to date with emerging technologies and recommend where these could add value

What You'll Need

  • Experience with healthcare messaging and integration
  • Detailed working knowledge of HL7 v2.x, HL7 FHIR and other recognised healthcare messaging standards
  • Familiarity with NHS-standard integration engines such as InterSystems Ensemble/HealthShare, Orion Rhapsody, CloverLeaf, BizTalk, or NextGen Mirth Connect / BridgeLink is highly desirable
  • Strong Java development experience, including Maven, Spring Boot and Apache Camel
  • Solid grounding in TDD or other testing methodologies
  • Strong Git (or other DVCS) experience, along with CI systems such as Azure DevOps
  • Experience building and deploying software in containerised environments (Docker & Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with Configuration as Code and GitOps deployment approaches
  • Awareness of internet security practices, including mTLS and SSH
  • Some JavaScript/ECMAScript knowledge
  • Familiarity with standard Enterprise Integration Patterns (EIP)
  • Experience developing HTTP-based protocols (REST/SOAP) and associated structured message formats
  • A collaborative, self-organised approach, with a genuine interest in problem-solving and making a real difference in the healthcare sector
  • Health tech experience is a bonus, but not essential

What's on Offer

  • £60,000 salary
  • Fully remote working, UK-based
  • Permanent position with a stable, growing healthcare technology company
  • The chance to work on systems that make a genuine difference in clinical settings
  • A small, collaborative team environment with real scope to shape products and processes
  • Mentoring and career development opportunities
